Born Edwin Eugene Aldrin, Jr., in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, on January 20, 1930, he is well known for being one of the first individuals to walk on the moon. With colleague astronaut and flight commander Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins, he made this incredible and historic voyage to the moon. He was the lunar module pilot on Apollo 11, the first human-crewed lunar landing in history, and was the second person to walk on the moon. On July 21, 1969, at 03:15:16 UTC, he stepped onto the moon, following mission commander Neil Armstrong, the first man to do so.

In 1951, Aldrin graduated third in his class from West Point and joined the United States Air Force as a Second Lieutenant, serving as a jet fighter pilot. Credits to Buzz, he received numerous awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1969.
